San Cristóbal de las Casas

Day 1: Arrival in the Chiapas Highlands

Day 2: Sumidero Canyon & candlelit evening
Descend into the dramatic limestone walls of Sumidero Canyon by boat, navigating the Grijalva River beneath towering cliffs while spotting crocodiles, monkeys, and birdlife along the banks. Return to San Cristóbal in the afternoon. That evening, enjoy a reserved romantic dinner highlighting regional Chiapas cuisine in an intimate setting.

Day 3: Markets, churches & living city
Explore San Cristóbal on a guided walk through its historic center, visiting colonial churches, local markets, and everyday neighborhoods that reflect the city’s layered identity. The remainder of the day is unstructured, with time to browse textile shops, galleries, or observe daily life from a quiet café.

Palenque

Day 4: From highlands to rainforest
Travel overland from San Cristóbal into the lowland rainforest of Palenque, where the air grows warmer and vegetation thickens with palms and ceiba trees. Arrive at your jungle lodge and spend the afternoon at leisure, surrounded by forest sounds and open green space.

Day 5: Temples in the canopy
Visit the ancient city of Palenque with a private guide, entering early to explore its temples and plazas while the jungle is still quiet. Learn how architecture, astronomy, and landscape shaped this Maya center. The afternoon is free to relax at the lodge or take short nature walks nearby.

Day 6: Waterfalls & deep jungle sites
Head into the surrounding forest to visit the stepped waterfalls of Roberto Barrios, where clear pools invite swimming and time on jungle paths. Continue onward to a lesser-visited Maya site. Bonampak reveals vividly painted murals, while the optional upgrade to Yaxchilán includes a boat journey along the Usumacinta River to temples hidden deep in the jungle.

Day 7: Departure from the Green South
