This 10-night journey moves through Nicaragua’s volcanic heart, from revolutionary León to lakeside Granada and the twin-volcano calm of Ometepe. Begin in cities shaped by history and heat, then slow into island rhythms where freshwater springs, forest trails, and open views define each day. Active mornings give way to unstructured afternoons, with private moments woven throughout.

León
Day 1: Arrival in León
Arrive in Managua and travel north to León, Nicaragua’s intellectual and revolutionary heart. The road passes through lowland farms and small towns before the city comes into view. Check in at Hotel Azul, a restored colonial home just off the historic center. Spend the evening wandering open plazas and cobbled streets as pastel facades catch the last light of day.
Day 2: Cerro Negro volcano boarding
Travel outside the city to Cerro Negro, a young volcano rising sharply from the surrounding plain. Hike to the summit, then descend by board across fine black volcanic ash, one of Nicaragua’s most distinctive adventures. Return to León dusty and energized. The afternoon is free to rest, visit museums, or settle into a shaded café.
Day 3: León on foot, cathedral rooftop & street food
Explore León on foot with a private guide, visiting landmark churches, markets, and revolutionary sites. Step inside the white cathedral, then climb to the rooftop for wide views across the city and distant volcanoes. Along the way, sample local street food and learn how history and daily life intersect here. The afternoon is left open for wandering or rest.

Granada
Day 4: South to Granada
Travel south to Granada, Nicaragua’s most elegant colonial city, set along the shores of Lake Nicaragua. Check in at Plaza Colón, facing the cathedral and central square. Spend the afternoon exploring galleries, shaded courtyards, and the lakeside promenade, with cafés and historic streets just outside your door.
Day 5: Mombacho cloud forest & coffee finca
Journey into the highlands of Mombacho Volcano, where cloud forest clings to steep slopes. Walk shaded trails lined with orchids, ferns, and birdsong. Continue to a nearby coffee finca for zip lining through the canopy, followed by an introduction to how altitude and volcanic soil influence Nicaragua’s coffee culture. Return to Granada in the late afternoon.
Day 6: Las Isletas by kayak & private dinner
Paddle by kayak through Las Isletas, a scattering of small volcanic islands spread across Lake Nicaragua. Glide past fishing skiffs, birdlife, and quiet lakeside homes. In the evening, gather for a private dinner set in a historic courtyard, where candlelight and regional cuisine bring your time in Granada to a close.
