Travel with Osaviva to Costa Rica
Cloud forests draped in mist, volcanoes rising from emerald valleys, and beaches where howler monkeys call from the treetops.
Costa Rica is a country of contrasts, where Pacific surf towns meet Caribbean villages, and mornings can begin with a volcano hike and end with sunset over the sea. Luxury here is woven into nature itself. Boutique jungle lodges open onto wildlife-rich trails, oceanfront villas sit steps from the sand, and private guides bring the country’s biodiversity to life. With over a quarter of the land protected, Costa Rica offers adventure, discovery, and connection at every turn.

When to Visit Costa Rica
Costa Rica can be visited year-round, though each season offers a different experience. The dry season from December to April is the most popular, with sunny skies and ideal beach weather, particularly on the Pacific coast. May and June bring the green season’s first rains, refreshing the landscape while keeping mornings bright and afternoons lively with showers.
The wettest months are September and October on the Pacific side, a quieter time perfect for lower rates and lush scenery, while the Caribbean coast enjoys some of its sunniest weather. Wildlife enthusiasts will find year-round encounters, with notable events such as turtle nesting in Tortuguero from July to October, whale migrations off the southern Pacific from August to October and again in January to March, and vibrant bird migrations in March to May and September to November.

Know Before You Go
Pack for microclimates
Costa Rica’s diversity means you might experience sun, rain, and cool alpine air all in one trip. Bring layers, waterproof gear, and breathable clothing.
Sustainability is a priority
Costa Rica is a global leader in eco-tourism. Many of our partners are eco-certified, and activities our guests do often support local communities and conservation efforts.
Language
Spanish is the official language, but English is spoken in most tourist areas. Learning a few Spanish phrases can go a long way with the locals!
Currency & payments
Local currency is the Costa Rican colón, but US dollars are widely accepted, and credit cards are commonly used, particularly in upscale hotels & restaurants.
Travel time between regions
The terrain can make travel slower than expected. Google Maps times often underestimate actual transit time. Plan accordingly.
Health & safety
Avoid eating street food, drink bottled water in remote areas, use reef-safe sunscreen, and bring insect repellent for jungle destinations.
