An 8-night romantic journey through Costa Rica, blending city charm, jungle adventure, and Caribbean beach bliss—from the cultural streets of San José to the wildlife-rich canals of Tortuguero and the laid-back shores of Puerto Viejo.
Tortuguero & Puerto Viejo
Where the jungle meets the waterDay 1: Arrival in San José
Arrive in the capital and settle into Grano de Oro, a tranquil hideaway tucked within the city’s lively streets. Unwind with dinner at the hotel’s acclaimed restaurant and a soak in the rooftop hot tub before the journey begins.
Day 2: Into the wild
Travel east through misty mountains and tropical plantations before boarding a riverboat bound for Tortuguero. Arrive at Mawamba Lodge in time for lunch, then paddle quiet jungle canals by kayak, watching for herons, monkeys, and caimans along the way.
Day 3: Wildlife encounters by land and sea
Wake early for birdwatching in the forest. Cruise the waterways with a naturalist guide in search of sloths, toucans, and howler monkeys. After dark, spot red-eyed tree frogs in the gardens and head to the beach for a rare glimpse of sea turtles nesting by moonlight.
Tropical tranquility on the Caribbean coastDay 4: From rainforest to shoreline
Leave the jungle behind as you head south to Puerto Viejo. Check into Awa Beach Hotel and spend the afternoon relaxing on the warm sands just steps from your suite.
Day 5: Hidden beaches by bicycle
Cycle along the coast to reach quiet, palm-fringed beaches like Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva. Enjoy a gourmet picnic in the shade before returning to town for a chocolate and rum tasting at a local cacao shop.
Day 6: Coral reefs and hammocks
Snorkel the vibrant coral reefs of Cahuita National Park, where calm waters reveal colorful marine life. Return to Awa for a slow afternoon of seaside lounging.
Day 7: Slow day, starry night
Spend the day as you please—whether beachcombing or napping in a hammock. In the evening, celebrate your final night with a private beachfront dinner, lit by flickering lanterns and a sky full of stars.
A thrilling farewellDay 8: Rapids and rainforest
Travel inland for a day of whitewater rafting on the wild Pacuare River, surrounded by emerald jungle and steep canyon walls. After the adventure, return to San José for a final evening at Grano de Oro.
Day 9: Departure
After breakfast, a private transfer takes you to the airport for your onward journey.
Situated on a quiet, tree-shaded street in San José, Grano de Oro is a grand tropical mansion reimagined with quiet elegance. Inside, neoclassical charm meets modern ease with stained glass, warm woods, and rooms that open to leafy courtyards. Enjoy refined dining, a rooftop jacuzzi beneath the stars, and an award-winning wine cellar, all just steps from the pulse of the city.
Cradled between jungle canals and the Caribbean Sea, Mawamba Lodge invites you to slow down and listen. Wooden cabins sit among humming gardens where toucans call and monkeys swing past your porch. Days drift between river safaris, quiet swims, and open-air meals beneath the palms. Remote and unhurried, it is Tortuguero in its purest form: alive, lush, and wonderfully untamed.
Set along the palm-lined sands of Playa Cocles, Awa is a chic Caribbean escape where barefoot ease meets modern design. Ocean-view suites, a saltwater pool, and open-air lounge invite sun-soaked, unhurried days. Rooted in Puerto Viejo’s coastal soul, Awa is relaxed, refined, and effortlessly stylish.
